When the weekend feels slow, the instinct is to cut deeper. There's a better move. Give people more instead of charging them less. Here's how bundles work and how to build one.
Back in Close Two, we said the weekend has a better lever than a bigger discount. Add instead of subtract.
This is that move, up close.
Because here's what happens when the orders feel slow. The owner panics and drops the price again. Then again. Each cut comes straight out of the cash they need for January. Busy weekend, empty register.
A bundle flips it. Instead of charging less, you give more. The customer feels like they're winning, your order size goes up, and your margin barely moves. Let's build one.
People love getting more. That's the whole engine.
A deeper discount says "this is worth less than you thought." A bundle says "look how much you're getting." Same customer, two very different feelings. One makes your product look cheap. The other makes it look generous.
And here's the part that matters for your cash. When you cut 30% off a price, every bit of that comes out of your margin. When you add a bonus to a bundle, you're giving away something that costs you a little, not a lot. A free add-on that costs you three dollars can feel like twenty to the buyer. That gap is yours to use.
So the reframe is simple. Don't ask "how much can I take off?" Ask "what can I add that costs me little and feels like a lot?"
Walk through it with real feel, not just theory.
Say someone comes in for one product. On a deep-discount weekend, they buy the one thing, half off, and you keep almost nothing. On a bundle weekend, they buy a set of three for one good price, and because the bundle raised what they spent, you keep more in total even though the deal looks good to them.
That's the trick hiding in plain sight. A bundle raises the order size and hides the exact discount at the same time. The customer can't do the per-item math in their head, so they're not staring at a percentage. They're looking at a pile of good stuff for a fair price. You moved more product and protected your margin in the same move.
So how do you put a bundle together? A few simple rules keep it clean.
Lead with the thing they already want. Build the bundle around your best seller, the product people come to you for anyway. That's the anchor. Then add to it. Don't bundle your slow movers together and hope, that's just a pile of stuff nobody wanted at a slightly lower price.
Add things that go together. The bonus should make the main product better. If they're buying the coffee, add the beans or the mug. Things that belong together feel like a complete gift, not a random grab bag.
Make the saving obvious, not deep. Show that the bundle is a better deal than buying the pieces one by one. It doesn't have to be a huge gap. People just need to see that buying the set is the smart move.
Keep it to one clear bundle, not ten. Too many choices freeze people. One strong bundle that's easy to say yes to beats a wall of options nobody can pick from.
None of this requires slashing a price. You're building something that looks generous and keeps your cash where it belongs.
Building a bundle takes a little thought. Cutting a price takes none. That's the whole reason owners reach for the discount.
A deeper cut feels like action. Fast, simple, done. A bundle means sitting down for twenty minutes and deciding what goes with what. So under weekend pressure, owners grab the lazy lever and bleed their margin for it.
But that's the trap. The easy move and the right move aren't the same here. The discount feels like you're doing something and quietly empties the register. The bundle takes a bit more thought up front and actually leaves you with cash when the weekend's done.
Add instead of subtract. Build the bundle around what they already want, make it feel generous, keep it to one clear offer. That's how you run a weekend that sells without giving away the year.
I put the whole weekend into one simple builder, and the bundle is a big part of it. What to anchor it on, what to add, and how to price it so it feels generous to them and stays healthy for you.
